Professor Ruth Hussey

(MBChB, MSc, MD, FFPH (fellow Faculty of Public Health))

Ruth was Chief Medical Officer for Wales for four years until 2016.

She initially trained as a GP before working in academia, as a Director of Public Health in Liverpool, and in strategic leadership roles in the NHS and Department of Health.

Ruth Chaired the Parliamentary Review of Health and Social Care in Wales and is now a Commissioner on the Lancet/LSE Commission on ‘The Future of the NHS’.  She is also Chair of the Welsh Food Advisory Committee and a Board member of the Food Standards Agency, a member of the Health Inequalities Board, Public Health England and an Advisory Board member for the NIHR, School of Public Health Research. She became a Governor of the Health Foundation in Feb 2018, is Honorary President of the North Wales Ramblers Cymru, an Honorary Professor at the University of Liverpool and she holds awards from a range of other universities in both England and Wales.
