Responding to citizens in debt to public services

Project status Completed

This project aimed to find out how public services and their contracted partners in Wales might better respond to vulnerable debtors, especially those subject to prosecution and prison.

Our primary focus is on two forms of debt that Welsh public services have some control over – council tax debts, and rent arrears to government and social landlords. The project involved an analysis of debt owed to public services in Wales, understanding the debtor experience, and reviewing the evidence on effective support for vulnerable people in debt across all sectors.
