This event is jointly organised by the WISERD (Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research and Data) Politics and Governance Research Network and the WCPP (Wales Centre for Public Policy).
Wales faces a number of economic, political and societal challenges. From Brexit, the further devolution of powers, the growing conversation around independence, to sustainable development goals and the wellbeing of future generations, how Wales navigates these questions will be crucial for its future
Building on the success of our 2019 conference Welsh Policy and Politics in Unprecedented Times, Wales’s Future will bring together academics at all stages of their career with participants from the Welsh public, private and third sectors.
This one-day conference will be organised into three panel sessions with paper presentations (10-15 minutes for each presentation) followed by discussant feedback and questions from the audience. The panels will focus on the following themes:
- Wales’s future in the Union: Brexit, devolution, and the future of the Union.
- Wales’s future in the world: including implementation of and future steps with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act
- Wales’s future in numbers: gathering and using data in Wales for policy-making.
There will also be a poster presentation and viewing session, and a lunchtime ‘in conversation’ session with experts from Wales and beyond.
Submitting an abstract or poster proposal
We invite academics and others conducting research on Welsh politics and governance to submit abstracts of papers, or proposals for posters, to be presented at the conference. Abstracts and proposals should not exceed 300 words and be sent to wiserd.events@cardiff.ac.uk. Decisions will be communicated as soon as possible after that date. We encourage PhD students and early-career researchers to submit abstracts and proposals, and funds are available to help them with travel costs associated with attending (there is no charge for the event).
