A better way forward for Welsh procurement: Learning lessons from Carillion

Location Radisson Blu Hotel Cardiff, Meridian Gate, Bute Terrace, Cardiff, CF10 2FL
Tickets Book here
Date 4 July 2018

Chaired by Professor Steve Martin, Director of the Wales Centre for Public Policy, our panel included:

  • Milica Kitson OBE, CEO, Constructing Excellence Wales
  • Matthew Mortlock, Director of Performance Audit, Wales Audit Office, and lead on the WAO’s recent review of public procurement in Wales
  • Cllr. Phil Murphy, Cabinet Member for Resources, Monmouthshire County Council, and former Chair of the Wales Purchasing Consortium
  • John Tizard, Independent Strategic Advisor and expert on public service markets

While Wales is considerably less exposed to large scale private provision of public services compared to England, the Carillion case affords a moment for all those concerned with commissioning and delivering public services in Wales to reflect on procurement and outsourcing as innately political and strategic decisions.
