Sir Peter Housden

After a career in education and local government, Peter Housden joined the Civil Service in 2001.  He served as Permanent Secretary in ODPM and Communities and Local Government before being appointed Permanent Secretary in Scotland, leading the civil service there from 2010-2015 through the referendum on independence and major programmes of public service improvement and economic investment.

Peter’s interests lie in collaborative leadership and workforce development in public services.  Since leaving the Civil Service, he has been involved in leadership development work in the UK and Ireland and is a Trustee of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
